These terms and conditions set out the full extent of any agreement between you and Athenian Grocery. By placing an order with us you agree to be bound by AthenianGrocery.co.uk terms and conditions set out below.

Legal Disclaimer

Unless expressly indicated in the product description, AthenianGrocery.co.uk is not the manufacturer of the products sold on our website. While we work to ensure that product information on our website is correct, manufacturers may alter their product information. Actual product packaging and materials may contain more and/or different information than shown on our website. You should always read the labels, warnings and instructions provided with the product before using or consuming it and not solely rely on the information presented on our website. If you have any specific product queries, please contact the manufacturer. This notice does not affect your legal rights.

 

Contract for the Supply of Goods

  • AthenianGrocery.co.uk is a trading name of Athenian Grocery, 16a Moscow Road, London, United Kingdom, W2 4BT and its principal aim is to supply Greek & Mediterranean products to the UK.
  • No contract for the supply of goods will subsist unless and until an email is sent by AthenianGrocery.co.uk to you confirming that your order has been completed (shipped) (this does not include our order receipt email). This confirmation email amounts to an acceptance by AthenianGrocery.co.uk and is effective regardless of whether or not you receive the email.
  • AthenianGrocery.co.uk is free to withdraw from a prospective contract at any time prior to acceptance.
  • AthenianGrocery.co.uk reserves the right to refuse service, terminate accounts, terminate your rights to use Athenian Grocery, remove or edit content, or cancel orders in its sole discretion.

 

Payment

  • AthenianGrocery.co.uk accepts payment by credit or debit cards & PayPal.
  • Your card will be charged within 24 hours from ordering, since stock is strictly controlled, reserved for you. In case of unexpected stock shortages or defective material, a full refund will be issued immediately without delays and you will be notified accordingly.

 

Our Prices

  • All prices listed on the site include taxes (where appropriate).
  • Minimum Spend per order is currently set at . £0.

 

Availability

  • In the case where a product is out of stock at AthenianGrocery.co.uk and at our suppliers, you will be notified by phone / email to discuss this further or of the expected delivery date.
  • We aim to show correct stock information on the website but with fast-selling lines it is not always possible to keep it 100% accurate. If an item you’ve ordered is unavailable we’ll contact you to advise the estimated delivery date, and suggest an alternative item if appropriate.
  • Product availability is subject to change without notice.

 

Refund eligibility terms

Important information regarding the shipping of chocolate products
It’s great that we’re past the cold winter months and moving into longer nights and warmer days. As much as we enjoy this time of year, it does make shipping chocolate items more challenging. There is an increased risk that products containing chocolate will be damaged by heat during transit. In previous years we have simply opted to not ship these items during the Spring and Summer months. However, we were constantly having requests from customers that they must have their products and that we should ship anyway. So we have decided to continue shipping chocolate to our customers as long as they are willing to “take the chance”.

We ship a lot of chocolate to customers during the warmer months. The vast majority arrive perfectly intact and without damage. However, we cannot control the temperature of carrier warehouses and trucks during transit. We cannot control where the carrier leaves your package either. So there is a small risk that some shipments will unfortunately be damaged.

We will continue to offer these items for sale on our website. However please understand that we cannot accept responsibility should your chocolate melt during shipping. We are giving you the choice to place orders with this risk in mind. AthenianGrocery.co.uk will not accept returns, issue refunds for any chocolate damaged by heat. It is solely the customer’s choice whether to order these items or not.

 

Shipping of Frozen/Chilled products
In case you’re not in when the driver tries to deliver your parcels, our carriers are instructed to leave the parcel containing perishable products to a safe place.

You may also collect them from your nearest depot/collection point. (Mon-Fri, usually 9am-5pm). Regrettably if you are unable to collect your order for more than 48 hours we cannot guarantee the quality of Frozen/Chilled items (because we don’t know how they have been handled or stored once they have left our store) any refrigerated food items such as dairy, meats, frozen goods (because of health and safety regulations). Affected items (fresh / frozen / chilled) are not eligible for refunds and/or replacements..

In order to keep your products at recommended temperatures we recommend to purchase a Cold box, all of your items are placed in these Polystyrene boxes, which offer the best insulation for temperature sensitive products.

Expanded Polystyrene has a very low rate of thermal conductivity, which ensures the produce inside the box are kept at a stable temperature regardless of outside conditions. It is also lightweight, odourless, non-toxic and hygienic, approved for direct contact with food, fully recyclable and can be re-used.

In order to keep products chilled up to 18 hours, the Polystyrene boxes are used in conjunction with non-hydrated ice pads. These are non-toxic, are approved to come into direct contact with food and can be re-used.

Important information regarding change of delivery address

We cannot change the delivery address after your order is dispatched or no longer editable and we advise customers not to change the delivery address after orders dispatched. Any address changes after dispatch are unauthorised and AthenianGrocery.co.uk cannot be held responsible for any consequent delivery problems that might occur. In particular:

Any delivery address change requested by customers/recipients and any consequent delivery delays, delivery cancellations, product damages or lost parcels after parcels have been dispatched are matters that cannot be dealt by AthenianGrocery.co.uk, since these are beyond our control and scope. Thus, AthenianGrocery.co.uk cannot be held responsible for any delivery delays, delivery cancellations, product damages or lost parcels. Recipients, in cases like this, are responsible for the address change and any consequent problems following the unauthorised delivery address change.

We will try our very best your goes as smoothly as possible and we will help as much as possible if any problem arises.

 

Age Restrictions

Because we sell age restricted items we ask you to confirm you are over 18 by agreeing to our Terms & Conditions (you will be asked to tick this box at the checkout).

 

Delivery Options & Rates

Your order will normally be dispatched within 2-3 working days of receipt and delivered by Royal Mail or Courier. It is very important that you provide a delivery address where there will be someone in to accept the parcel during working hours, otherwise you may have to collect the goods from a local depot.

Our larger, over £50 orders are sent out by courier for next day delivery.

  • Please note: We cannot deliver to a PO Box.
  • It is up to you to make sure that your address details are entered correctly and accurately. We cannot be responsible for delivery problems caused by inadequate address details.
  • We do not send out any orders on a Friday to avoid being stored in a depot over the weekend, which means we do not deliver on Saturday or Sunday.
  • We reserve the right to charge customers for costs arising from their failure to accept a delivery, although we will do everything possible to avoid this.

 

At the moment AthenianGrocery.co.uk delivers to customers in Britain.

Mainland England and Wales (including VAT):

Delivery is FREE if you spend £50 or more. And for smaller orders it will be £2.50 and over.. The final delivery cost will be shown when you update your order at the checkout. 

Highlands, Scottish Islands & Islands (including VAT):

Delivery starts from £18.00 to £26.00 for 15kg orders. The final delivery cost will be shown when you update your order at the checkout.

Isle of Wight (Including VAT):

Delivery starts from £13.50 to £40.00 for larger order. The final delivery cost will be shown when you update your order at the checkout.

Please contact us for a price on non-UK mainland deliveries.

Standard shipping options and rates do not apply during Christmas & Easter periods

 

Cancellation

  • Where you have already received the goods, you may cancel your order any time up to seven days after receiving the delivery. Goods are to be returned to us unopened and in a resalable condition. AthenianGrocery.co.uk will then refund you the purchase price of the goods. This does not apply to fresh/chilled/frozen and perishable products.
  • AthenianGrocery.co.uk will not be liable for delivery costs if an item is returned unwanted.

 

Returns

  • Please get in contact with us via Email or Phone.
  • We are happy to accept returns of unwanted*, defective or damaged items.
  • * It does not apply to fresh/chilled/frozen and perishable products.
  • Please return any Greek product wrapped securely to prevent damage, and include a note of the problem experienced and your original invoice.
  • We will reimburse postage costs for defective items. We will not reimburse postage costs for simply unwanted items.
  • If a product is no longer obtainable, we will refund your account.
  • We check the returned products and reserve the right to return any item to you at your expense if it is not defective/damaged.

 

Unauthorised Returns

  • Sometimes some parcels are returned to us by the carrier without AthenianGrocery.co.uk agreement and authorisation. Our carrier costs for an unauthorised return is £12 Return Fee per Parcel. Regrettably, this cost is borne by the customer.
  • Unauthorised returns mostly occur in the following situations:
    • when customers fail to be in to receive their orders on their delivery day.
    • when repeated delivery attempts fail
    • when customers fail to pick up their orders from the collection point they requested within 24 hours.
  • We will refund your account for the returned products only, except for chilled/frozen and perishable products.
  • Delivery and packaging costs are not refundable.

 

Privacy

  • AthenianGrocery.co.uk retains a certain level of information about our customers in order that we can process orders you place with us and provide you with a convenient service when you return to our site.
  • The information you provide when registering will not be sold, lent or otherwise disseminated beyond AthenianGrocery.co.uk and the resources required to fulfil your order, and we make every effort to secure any data we hold.
  • Credit and Debit card details are entered into a secure server using SSL technology, which is provided by Dojo (PaymentSense) & PayPal. Any of credit card processing company that you might choose, securely process your credit and debit card information and guarantee all transactions.
  • We adhere to the Data Protection Principles therein which in summary require that data shall be:
  • Fairly and lawfully processed.
  • Processed for limited purposes.
  • Adequate, relevant and not excessive.
  • Accurate.
  • Not kept longer than necessary.
  • Processed in accordance with the data subject’s rights.
  • Secure.
  • Not transferred to other companies without your consent and adequate protection.
